Quasi-likelihood models and optimal inference

چکیده
Consider an ergodic Markov chain on the real line, with parametric models for the conditional mean and variance of the transition distribution. Such a setting is an instance of a quasi-likelihood model. The customary estimator for the parameter is the maximum quasi-likelihood estimator. It is not eecient, but as good as the best estimator that ignores the parametric model for the conditional variance. We construct two eecient estimators. One is a convex combination of solutions of two estimating equations, the other a weighted nonlinear one-step least squares estimator, with weights involving predictors for the third and fourth centered conditional moments of the transition distribution. Additional restrictions on the model can lead to further improvement. We illustrate this with an autoregressive model whose error variance is related to the autoregression parameter.

Statistical Inference in Autoregressive Models with Non-negative Residuals
Normal residual is one of the usual assumptions of autoregressive models but in practice sometimes we are faced with non-negative residuals case. In this paper we consider some autoregressive models with non-negative residuals as competing models and we have derived the maximum likelihood estimators of parameters based on the modified approach and EM algorithm for the competing models. Also,...
متن کاملQuasi-likelihood for Spatial Point Processes.
Fitting regression models for intensity functions of spatial point processes is of great interest in ecological and epidemiological studies of association between spatially referenced events and geographical or environmental covariates. When Cox or cluster process models are used to accommodate clustering not accounted for by the available covariates, likelihood based inference becomes computat...
متن کاملModified Likelihood Ratio Test for Regime Switching
This paper proposes a modified quasi-likelihood test of Markov regime switching models. Despite its popularity in economics and finance, there are few papers that develop tests for regime switching models. Recently, Cho and White (2007) derive the asymptotic distribution of the quasi-likelihood ratio (QLR) statistic of Markov regime switching models with a scalar parameter. The asymptotic distr...
متن کاملEstimating Functions
Estimating functions provide inference methods based on a model for speciied functions of the response variable, such as the mean and variance. The inference methods can use the limiting distribution of the estimating function, or the derived limiting distribution of the estimating function roots, or the derived limiting distribution of the quasi-likelihood function. In fully speciied parametri...
متن کاملThe Pearson diffusions: A class of statistically tractable diffusion processes
The Pearson diffusions is a flexible class of diffusions defined by having linear drift and quadratic squared diffusion coefficient. It is demonstrated that for this class explicit statistical inference is feasible. Explicit optimal martingale estimating functions are found, and the corresponding estimators are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normal. The discussion covers GMM, quasi-l...
